Retail price for Vista Blows, my next system will be a Mac.I couldn't agree more

My next system will a Mac Pro or whatever the towers are called next spring/summer but I'll still buy windows to go with OSX. I just wont be paying anything close to $400 even if I do decide to go with Vista Ultimate. ;)

They kept the same pixel size as from before, but made the sensor larger to increase the number of pixels. It's also uses backlit illumination, per Steve Jobs.

    BackSIDE illumination.

On the last page of Part 12 I posted a setup that is located in my home office (mainly used by my wife). Different room.

I decided to update my own office (kind of) with a brand spanking new iMac which is replacing my late 2009 Macbook Pro.

    Old Specs Macbook Pro 17":
2.8 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4GB RAM
500GB + 80GB SSD ( took it out before selling)
    Nvidia 9400M + 9600M

    New Specs iMac:
    2.93Ghz i7
    8GB RAM
1TB Hard Drive + (still want my 80GB SSD inside this baby, but difficult to do so!)
    ATI Radeon HD 5750 1GB

    So far, so good.

The speakers are also still there, but these are not shown in the picture.

    This is an old/new comparison.

Mind the quality, but my iPhone 4 broke (will be replaced) on me so I used an old iPhone first generation.

I kept the iPad 64Gb Wifi.

    Feedback is always welcome. :D

Just curious.. why would you put the iMac inside the window and block it entirely? Seems a bit odd

This is America, and that person DOES NOT NEED TO JUSTIFY HERSELF TO YOU! If that V10 Excursion ever gets in an accident with your "95+ MPG" car, it will illustrate one very good reason to drive an Excursion, and you will not survive. Even with a five star crash rating, these newer lighter cars are death traps when fitted against large SUVs, these crash ratings do not take into account the advantage created by additional weight. Also, if your considering CO2 as "pollution", are you aware of the fact that only 0.28% of all greenhouse gasses are from human activity ? Not 28%, but 0.28%, the rest is mainly water vapor. With all of the resources that the world is throwing at reducing CO2 emissions we could actually do something useful instead like end world hunger. What we are doing to reduce CO2 is kind of like pissing into the ocean to warm it up, maybe it makes you better but it will not work. Enjoy that "95MPG" golf cart you drive.

Everything has to start some where. I was nearly t-boned by a SUV today that thought they were better than the rest of us... they were running very much running a red light. Get your head out of the sand as to the new world order...

Here in America bigger does not mean better in the end...

I think the prices of Windows and OSX are quite the same. You can buy a new version of OSX more frequently for a lower price per each version, or buy a new version of Windows once and pay more for it but receive free updates/service packs for years. The yearly costs are quite the same.

Service packs aren't really upgrades, they are mainly bug fixes, security updates and minor feature amendments -- and even they come only infrequently (two service packs for XP in five years). Apple provides the same thing for free, and more regularly. Each of the decimal upgrades to OSX have been far more significant than either of the XP service packs.

I don't understand why anyone would want to turn Microsoft's plodding into a virtue. It's as though giving your customers less value for more money is a good thing.

We need to get developers to use open standards and flash is not!
Besides flash being a processor hog (bad code especially on the Mac) it is bad for search engines, it is bad for web standards, it is bad for design.

At one time it was the only way to get rich media and non-refresh dynamic content on the web. Now there are much better lower overhead, open, web standards based ways of doing this. Flash should go away!

Apple taking a stand against flash is good. All the internet needs now is a open standard video codec!

What we all need to do is educate / demand that web developers / sited eliminate flash and use open standards.

Personally I do not use sites that require flash for operability - one of my favorite hotel chains "upgraded" their site to a flash based reservation system - it looks great but is slow and un-reliable, - so I stopped staying there and emailed them telling them they lost a customer due to their bad flash based reservation system!

I disagree that people don't care about flash players. Plenty of sites out there use flash extensively and do not offer a non-flash version. Adding adobe flash capability to the iphone would make it that much better in my opinion. Just because apple doesn't want it, doesn't mean it's not useful. I for one believe that apple "sometimes" listens to it's users, and if enough people complain, apple will react. Think apps for the iphone (remember apple's stand, it's an ipod, not a computer), cut/paste and push service. Background apps seem to be the next barrier to be broken, why not flash?

As far as adobe and MS "holding back" web progression, the whole point of flash is that it is a tool that makes highly interactive media sites easier to accomplish.

I don't think that they're in any danger of that. This was a sneak peek. It was not a Beta Release, it is not a "features complete" release. Come January, if there aren't major improvements, then I think what you're suggesting could be discussed further. Until then, it's not fair to say that Leopard isn't going to be a success. We simply don't know enough about the final version to make any level of educated statement in that regard.

The only problem with that is from a business standpoint, Apple needed to come out and shine. In previous releases, Win XP was just a stagnant operating system, so OS X always looked light years ahead.

The deal now is that Apple is on a head to head collision course with Microsoft as to whose OS grabs the consumer. I just think Apple had a huge opportunity to get the Mac Community excited or would be Mac users excited and to completely outshine Vista, and they didn't reach nearly as high as they should have.

I have no question in my mind that Leopard will be amazing, it will have a number of great new features, it will be fast, etc... but Apple had tons of amazing products in the mid-1990s that were poorly executed and died before they ever got off the ground. These products died from a business end, not a technological end.

Does anyone know how the 7300GT compares to the X1600? I am leaning towards the 20" to replace my 17" rev. A iMacG5, but would upgrade to the 24" is the GPU is a big bump.

Well, it seems to be comparable with the X1800 GT, and that card is alot faster than the X1600.

...USA no longer manufactures except for our junky USA cars.

January 2011 marked the 18th straight month of growth in the US manufacturing sector, at the fastest rate in 7 years. Further, manufacturing created more jobs than were eliminated for the first time in more than a decade, and the number is likely to increase in 2011 (Wall Street Journal).

Not saying the situation is optimal, and we're not going back to an old-fashioned steel and coal economy anytime soon, it's just that the mythology has overtaken the facts.

    Did anyone love this quote?

Jobs was equally unconcerned about the prospect of the iPod losing its cool factor as it becomes increasingly ubiquitous.

"That's like saying you don't want to kiss your lover's lips because everyone has lips. It doesn't make any sense," said Jobs.

For all you people calling Apple...Just wait a day or so and the web thing will get sorted out...It sounds as if Apple is just using the website too, so they can't do anything to help you.

I agree that Apple needs to come up with some new designs for their hardware. I think the new nanos are a perfect combination of the nano (slim design, flash memory) and the mini (seemless casing, scratch proof) but the other products seem to be long in the tooth. The MacBook Pro/PowerBook has looked basically the same since it was debuted with a G4 processor (what was that, 2002?). The MacBook/iBook got a somewhat update look with the latest release, but kind of took a step backwards IMO.

However, with all of that said, 99% of us do not work for Apple and do not know how to design like they do. Where do you go with the current MBP? I would love to see an anodized black version but that still does not give us much of a difference at all. I am interested in seeing new products. I was dissapointed when they released the new MacPro's in the same encolusers. An extra optical slot and moving the power chord to the top of the tower does not count as a redesign.

Oh c'mon!! Why did the designers at apple pay education for?? Really?!!

Ok... I studied design myself(although a cinematographer now ;) ), and I know how hard it is to keep a sleek, clean, "ahead of its time" look and feel. But please!! 1yr Retro style?? Are they using recycled minis or something??

Really guys... This is not a complaint but Steve "Marketing Master" Jobs was not happy on this one... I know alot of people love the minis, and I also know that they will sell millions of "retro" nanos... but in a market POV its really bad to "go back in time" with design and say its brand new. And one last note about them: Theres millions of colors on the pallete... why use the same ones?? Again: are they recycled?? Cause if they are, Ill buy a couple, just for the sake of "saving the world".

the Mac Pros for example... they couldve done the cases with different finish or something.. but keeping the same design saved them millions of cash...

    BUT WAIT!! :p

Ok... lets get a little optimistic here:
Steve told us all last year, that this (2006) was going the be the "year of transition". So its quite dumb of us to expect big redesigns, and/or mint new technologies...

That makes me think that the design team is REALLY focusing on applying those new patent technologies on a brand new line of products hard/software. And what happens is:
Marketing Director - Time for new yearlly ipods!!
Design Chief Exec. - Do we still have some Mini aluminum on stock?
Chief Hardware Engineer - Yes plenty for a couple of million.
Design Chief Exec. - Okay, so lets just wrap up our current stock of nanos with it, and get the hell out of here.
Marketing Director - Yes, cof cof, sir.

;) These are just my two cents... :p

    Conclusion: Big redesigns -> 2007-2008

    No hardware in WWDC '11?
Apple always said they are about Software and Hardware, well then it wouldn't make sense for them to omit hardware from the conference.

    So i'm predicting...

A completely revamped iOS, named iOS 5
Mac OS X Lion, the best OS yet.
A completely revamped MobileMe, a lot of free features but more space requires cheaper annual payments.
Additional cloud-like services nobody thought of.

Why does this sound like everything that might be shown? Or am i missing something?

i was hoping they would show off the iPhone 5 alongside iOS 5, and new iMacs for Mac OS X Lion, but i guess that won't be happening..

AT&T already does ota updates for Android phones.
The update notice tells you that the download will begin once you connect to wifi.
Keeps you from blowing through your data plan.
Makes sense that they would do it for the iPhone too.

I was going to say this as well. It's how my Android phones have always been (with AT&T). Don't know why Apple can't utilize the same method (notification of update, and tell user to connect to wifi to complete update) for my iPhones.
