My iMacs have 2 Firewire ports (a 27" and a 24") which I use for TM and a SD clone external. The new iMacs only have one FW port - with 4 USB connections. Seems like a slower way to have to back up, and I see no externals out there that run Thunderbolt.
Am I missing something? :confused:

Unless I'm missing it in the thread, I didn't see anything on this particular question. Does anyone know if this database on the iPhone is accessible by apps? ie. can you download some app that then scans the database and uploads your information elsewhere behind the scenes?Only if the device is jailbroken. Normally, there is a "sandbox" in place that prevents apps from accessing system files (and files belonging to other apps). Jailbreaking effectively disables this sandbox.

The data is stored on YOUR phone and YOUR laptop ... Apple does not have a centralized database with that data - it is all on your devices.
You have no proof of this.
The governments have those big databases, but that's a different story.
I'm sure they do... but for the most part they just subpoena the telecom provider for whatever records they require.

As a long time PC user who is just getting frustrated with the windows experience, I am looking forward to seeing what Mac has to offer in the coming months.
I've been using Windows since 3.1 (ugh) and Mac since 1990. I use both today - Mac by choice, Windows not by choice.
I think you're in for quite a pleasant surprise if/when you make the transition.
I converted to Linux in 2007 and Mac in 2009 after using Windows since version 3.1 and don't miss a thing! It's true what they say "Mac's just work."
The resident professional Microsoft astroturfers will be here shortly to point out the error of your ways. ;)

Aside from trucks, the biggest production engine I can find in a sedan from a U.S. company is the 6.1L Hemi in the Dodge Charger/Magnum/Chrysler 300C SRT8, and those are still big by U.S. standards. The vast majority of engines are sub 5L, and even most of those are under 4L.

Okay, so now all I have to do is hope for SATA 3 SSD connections and the prices to drop to i5 @ $1699 and i7 @ $1999. Some REAL good GPUs and more standard ram. :cool:
I hate to say it but I'll keep holding off if the interface connections don't start jumping up in spec. It's retarded to see Thunderbolt and no SATA 3 or USB 3. It will a (re)selling point later on when you're looking to sell it off for the next new one.
USB3 is dead tech. You'll never see it on a Mac. Would be VERY surprised to see eSATA, as well.

As I said, fewer and fewer spaces where public debate can take place. Shopping malls are the same - 'public spaces' that aren't. Soon streets that have been public for years will start to be be privatised to provide 'better value for taxpayers' and the takeover will continue.

No more than $2,499/ �1,799. With the amount of internal room you would get behind a 23" monitor, Apple would have no problem putting in 4 RAM slots and a fast GPU (but I doubt Apple would do a fast GPU anyway).

wow, That's really bad. Cingular is sucks like pretty much every carrier in the US.
I hope at least they have the iphone to the major carriers. Just cingular is a joke. Verizon, T mobile and Sprint need to be included if they want the iphone to be a success.

It's seems to me that it's unlikely that the cost of litigation could have exceeded the cost of a settlement, so does that show that Apple expected to be found liable for patent infringement as charged?
You seem to be unfamiliar with our court system. This case could have dragged on for YEARS, and cost Apple a TON of money--possibly far more than 100 Million.

i have no sympathy to people that have obviously no respect for human life. they brought loaded weapons to use them if needed with lethal consequence. now they got wiped out. Good. i hope they screamed as they went into the wall with their friend's mind on their clothing. they made memories.

This should drastically lower the barrier for adoption.
