I LOLed when I saw this, but after reading it, I see what they are doing. They obviously strongly believe in Nokia's world-wide relevance. They think pretty much every Symbian user will switch over to winmo7.

I heard I think here at macrumors that Sony's mp3/phone is selling like hotcakes and I think they branded it as a walkman/cell phone.
What I hope is that the iPhone will be on Cingular, since my entire family and most of my friends are on it. I'd pass on the phone if they do one of those new deals where you're piggy-backing on other networks like Alltel (alltell, altell??) or it's on another carrier.

Apple is pathetic.
Sure, many companies copy Apple products, sometimes apple face lawsuit for incredible stupid reasons... and you blame them when they react?
Samsung galaxy is pretty similiar to iPhone 3GS and even it is user interface... i think Apple should ignore it but i can understand it. As for "windows" many users think Microsoft were the first os to use them... because people easily forgot things... in the end it is much more easy to copy as 90% of company do (in general, not from apple but it happens often).

They might as well add a Core 2 Duo Mac Book Pro too.
Best post of the day.
My gues is that all these whiners would not even notice if you snuck in at night and swapped out ther procesor for a C2D chip. They'd just wake up the next moring fire up the computer and never even notice.
It's like those audiophiles who argue endlessly about if gold plated or silver plated speaker wire sounds better.

That is the common sense reaction. You're seeing mac zealots here trying to trumpet how great these new iPods are.
Updating a 4:3 screen with another 4:3 screen and claiming it's improved is like Yugo rereleasing their car and claiming it's improved because the gas cap is a different color. It's still a Yugo.
Even apple admits that the iPod with video is pretty much the same box. Are you sure you're not getting confused by people excited by the new shuffle and nano? Or the software updates, which also apply to the previous iPod? I think I smell a straw man.
Because they use the same battery, how can videos play longer and not music?
Probably because video playback has been optimized, or they're using different video chips or screen.
Well Folks, you all seem to be concerned about if your iPod 5G is outdated..
ever thought about that?
If I got Steve right, no iPod that was sold prior to this very day will be able to play videos from the iTMS sold from this day on - not if Apple hasn't been lying VERY much about the H.264 decoding capabilities of the "old" iPod 5G.
I thought the 5G was already able to handle 640x480 movies, just couldn't display them at full resolution?
Doesn't matter if it has been opened. I bought an iMac right before the new ones came out, it was bto with the upc cut out and sent in for the free iPod offer. They gave a FULL refund with no restocking fee, even I made sure they knew it was opened with the upc cut off. This policy is different than their normal return policy.
Is that policy documented somewhere? Sounds like someone may have decided to be nice to you and make an exception.

No iPhone for me neither. But really, unless it was out-of-the-park good, there was no change I get one anyway.
Is anyone else getting a bit tired of all this apple branding outside of the computer space? I mean, a phone? Why o why SJ?
Okay, more Apple products out there means more brand recognition. More brand recognition means more people will be willing to check out Apple's hardware offerings. Got it?

The USA is on borrowed time. Unless the US can drastically make changes, things are really going to get worse.. as if they aren't all ready. Already, the corporate run media reports everything is getting much better.. I don't believe this over a hill of beans.. Consider this:
Job market still sucks.. unemployment in the US is over 10 percent despite what the media says being 8.9 percent..
Economy isn't really growing much at all.. at best 2 percent growth which does not mean its getting better.
The trillions of debt this country is in.. I fear within the next few years the debt is going to get higher + rising gas and food prices.. and most Americans are too stupid and blind to the corporate media saying things are ok.. I should know. I am struggling with gas and almost had a fight with someone at a gas station because I called for a REVOLT against the corporations controlling out lives(gas companies and the middle east OPEC).
3rdly, cost of living is rising, and food... So, is the US getting better? Hardly.. and no one seems to care or want to do something to change it.. The solution proposed by Congressman Ron Paul..
Complete ABOLIITION of the Federal Reserve and a repeal of the 1917-1919 federal reserve signed by Woodrow Wilson.. and also an end to the IRS and its tyrannical strangle hold on the citizenry..
The American people should take ownership of corporations and not allow corporations and banks to rule over the people.
Only then will America be able to recover from all of its ills.. and if someone can't recommend Ron Paul for 2012 presidency, then we have signed this country's death warrant.
And yes, the recession is not over.. in fact, we might even be heading into economic depression very shortly.
Its not about capitalism here.. its about ENDING CORPORATE RULE and BANKS ruling over us all.
Its time for Americans to take back the country from corporate elites and banks. DOWN WITH THE FEDERAL RESERVE!!! Power to the PEOPLE!

There shouldn't even be checkpoints in the first place because they violate the 4th Amendment. Every person sitting in line at that checkpoint is accused of being drunk without reasonable doubt.
The Fourth Amendment (Amendment IV) to the United States Constitution is the part of the Bill of Rights which guards against unreasonable searches and seizures, along with requiring any warrant to be judicially sanctioned and supported by probable cause.
Agree 100%.
There's a pretty good read here: http://www.lewrockwell.com/crovelli/crovelli27.html
while I don't necessarily agree with all of his points/correlations, some really do make sense.
One of the most glaring problems with the drunk-driving laws in this country is that they clearly discriminate against and ruthlessly penalize only one class of dangerous drivers. Drunk drivers are subject to arrest, thousands of dollars of fines, lengthy jail or prison sentences, loss of driving "privileges," alcohol abuse counseling, probation, et cetera. Other dangerous drivers are not subject to these draconian penalties. If Grandma gets pulled over by the police for careening in and out of the median, for example, she will not be wrenched from her Cadillac, handcuffed, incarcerated, counseled, or fined into bankruptcy. At worst, so long as she has not hurt anyone, she will be escorted home and possibly lose her "privilege" to drive on government roads in the future (she will not lose the "privilege" of paying for government roads, however). Similarly, a man who chooses not to wear his DMV-mandated glasses or contact lenses while driving does not have to worry about getting stopped at "corrective lens checkpoints" manned by nightstick-wielding troopers searching for un-bespectacled drivers to humiliate, arrest, fine, and send to jail. On the contrary, this type of dangerous driver is merely instructed to wear his glasses if he is stopped by the police, and he is issued a perfunctory (and revenue-generating) citation. He certainly does not have to worry about the possibility of going to state prison for several years when he decides to drive without his glasses unless he actually hurts someone.

I'm hoping for iMacs because I could care less about downloading Movies. Hell the only TV I download are the free eps. Unless you can get me 5.1 surround, DVD quality for a monthly fee that is less than Netflix... well, Netflix is still king to me. :)
Especially since DVDs ar easier to copy than these files would ever be. Not that i copy DVD's or anything.
I predict the following:
iTunes Movie Store with... 1080 HD movie downloads.
Updated Cinema Displays.
New Airport Extreme with 802.11n (for streaming the said Movies wirelessly)
iPod updates, either slightly modified nano(new cases+more compacity) and/or updated video iPods with higher compacity for said HD movies.
;)
I really do think theywill be available in 1080, and that will be a very big deal.
blueray? hd dvd? who cares i can just get them on itunes.
Well, an 8 meg connection is adequate to stream the HD trailers in 720p. I honestly don't think that Apple would bother offering the movies in any higher quality, as the codec scales nicely, and most HD sets are 720p or just that ED crap. When a set says 1080i on the side it usually means that it can decode a 1080i signal, not that it can display it. If you have a 1080i capable TV, you'll know it cause your ass will hurt much more than the guy who buys the 720p set.

I want to see Apple PUSH Thunderbolt into the logic board and all of the connections. Let's see Thunderbolt run SSD drives!!! If Apple and Intel don't push Thunderbolt into the light and really show how much better it is, and when I say "show" I mean build it and sell it to people, then it'll be a great idea that we'll all get around to years later than we should.
I could care less at the moment about external storage. I'll care at some point but not until the speed in the computer is as fast as it should be.
I recall FW400 having some success over SCSI. However FW800 was quite a disappointment. I was looking forward to it, until I realize only a handful of products are actually released. USB 2.0 is a success as it offers acceptable wide range performance. Would love eSata, however not holding my breath. ThunderBolt seems great, however with the lack of product announcements and pricing it is a wait and see if the masses will accept it or just go with other options NAS. :)

I am not sure if it is a smart move for apple to enter into the cell phone market. There is a lot of competition and I think resources could be used better elsewhere. But it seems Apple knows a lot more about it than me.

They are Dolby Surround, not Dolby Digital. Dolby Surround is just matrixed stereo audio.

Only if you buy the machine but don't open the box (unless you're willing to pay a 10% restocking fee). And that's only if you get the standard config, no custom BTO. Plus if you order it, you'll pay shipping back to them.
Actually NONE of the pc companies have made the transition. They haven't shipped a single machine with the new chips, just made announcements of shipments days or weeks away (and that was just earlier today...even if apple was behind, they'd only be hours behind, not even a full day). Right now apple is only behind in press releases, which has nothing to do with being ready to adapt to an intel platform. Now ranting about PC companies that haven't shipped the new machines yet...THAT is ridiculous.
I also think (this is my personal opinion, is not based on facts but just my impression) that apple has more "intense" followers than HP o Dell. Apple fans are always waiting for the latest and greatest from apple. They talk about new products making all kinds of speculation and rumors. (just like this thread)
While HP and Dell (gateway, toshiba etc) dont seem to have people as excited about their new product releases. They can say, in two weeks we will release this laptop with this processor and no one really cares as much as if apple would make the same statement.
These companies just sell appliances. People who are in the market for a windows based PC/laptop just look at what is currently available and buy what fufills their needs. Then they forget about HP (or any other manufacturer) until is time to replace their equipment.
But then again I may be wrong.

Agreed. There won't be anything of import in Paris itself. But Apple may release updates in conjunction with the Expo from their Cupertino campus.
That should make the Expo organizers _really_ happy!
Maybe I'm just getting caught up in the feverish excitement surrounding the impending release of Merom-based Apple notebooks, but I am going to predict that Apple will debut new iPods at Paris (which is why they banned all non-iPod mp3 players at the Apple Expo).
To give this announcement maximum effect they must announce MacBook Pros with Merom outside of the Apple Expo. Since other PC manufacturers have now announced Merom-based notebooks, Apple will likely present the MacBook Pros before the Expo, so either tomorrow or next week Tueday. I stand by my earlier predictions that MacBooks (and Mac Minis) will not get Meroms yet.

OK. hang on. back the f&6king truck up.
maybe we're backwards here. but i have NEVER, EVER heard of ANY kind of phone service where INCOMING calls are anything BUT free (excluding reverse-charge, obviously).
Im sorry, but if you all accept crappy CDMA phones specific to a carrier, and paying for incoming calls, you are kidding yourself if you think you are anything but backwards. (i wont go into the whole metric thing :P )
Sprint has free unlimited incoming calls. Also some providers have unlimited incoming and outgoing calls if you don't travel beyond your city.
Also CDMA isn't crappy it offers higherspeed than HSDPA while using less spectrum.
CDMA Rev A offers 3.8 down and 1.8 up in only 1.25 mhz of spectrum versus HSDPA of up too 14mbps down and 2 up in 5 mhz of spectrum. But with Rev B which is a software upgrade CDMA will have around 16mps down and 10mbps up in 5mhz of spectrum.

They have plenty of patents. It wasn't until the 90s that the patent madness really started with software. Google is also leading the bidding for a large portfolio of mobile patents to protect them against Apple and Microsoft.
http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2010/12/10/apple-nokia-others-bid-for-nortels-patent-treasure.aspx
Remember the last time Google made a HUGE move in an auction for something really important?
http://www.google.com/intl/en/press/pressrel/fccspectrum_20071130.html
This time, they have more at stake (and wireless spectrum and patents are completely different things), but Google doesn't seem to have its heart in battles like this. They've patented their homepage and logo doodle... but those seem like jokes.
Also... I could have sworn major companies like Microsoft and Apple were trying to buy the Nortel patents under a unified entity at one point, but it fell through. Not sure how much of a rumor that was.
